Crossroads Baptist Church had its early beginnings with approximately 15 people meeting together in a home in Staunton
in April of 1985. As growth came, they met in several different temporary facilities in the Fishersville area. In 1988, 30
acres of land was acquired at the church's present location, and the first auditorium and educational building was erected
and dedicated on April 17, 1988.
The church experienced good growth, but in the spring of 1990, the pastor resigned and the church experienced some turmoil.
With the church struggling, in September of 1990 Pastor Bill Johnson was called as the new pastor. He and his family relocated
here and assumed the ministry with a congregation of about 35 in attendance. Though they were small in number, they had a
great desire to see souls saved and believed God could still do a great work here in the Shenandoah Valley area.
God once again honored that small number of men and women. Within six short years of time, Crossroads saw an indebtedness
of $350,000 paid off, leaving the first original facility completely debt-free by 1997. As the church continued to be blessed
by God, both numerically and financially, in the summer of 1997, the church body voted to construct an educational family
life center and fellowship hall. It was completed and dedicated in November 1998. Once again, God miraculously provided, and
we went into that building debt-free.
The church still continues to grow and meet needs of many families in our area. Our newest 650-seat auditorium construction
began in 1999 and was completed and dedicated on April 30, 2000. We praise and thank God for the many souls that have been
saved and lives changed here at Crossroads and trust we will continue being a ministry God will use to reach families.
We have already begun planning for other phases for future growth and expansion. We plan to add a 350-seat balcony as the
need arises. New parking lots, several new ministries will also be forthcoming.
We trust Crossroads will be a church for Family and Friends that will last a lifetime, but more importantly, a place for
your Faith to grow and last throughout eternity. |
